Todd Johnson, Regional Director
A lifelong “Oregonian”, my formative years were spent on the Oregon coast in Coos Bay where my Father was the town’s local physician. I played virtually every team sport and continue to be active whether riding motorcycles, quads, snowmobiling, skiing, wake-boarding, boating, golfing, biking as well as spending a lot of time either hunting or fishing. With an older brother and two older sisters, we all grew with Dad informing us, “I will help you pay your first year in college – anywhere you want to go……as long as it is Oregon State”. Eventually we moved to the suburbs of Portland and as expected, I eventually found myself enrolled at Oregon State University where I joined the Sigma Chi Fraternity and graduated with degrees in Engineering. Needless to say, Oregon State was a great experience where I made many lifelong friends and had a lot of fun.
My first job after graduating was as a Consulting Sales Engineer with an international organization specializing in Water/Energy Management; whether a condenser, chiller, large boiler or entire cogeneration facility, my primary function was to evaluate, make recommendations for improvement (including system design) and calculate overall costs to implement along with associated ROI. I was very fortunate to have a great teacher who aided me to understand if I could help a client improve overall profitability with improved efficiencies – much of which would be realized through reduced energy consumption – all while making sure to focus on ROI, gaining new clientele was relatively easy. Eventually, I had an opportunity to relocate to Illinois – but knowing my heart belongs in the Pacific NW, made my decision easy…..and it was about this same time I decided to completely alter my working world and found my way into Mortgage Banking.
Now, 20+ years in the Mortgage Banking world – and as you can imagine, quite a ride. Some people have asked me over the years “what is was like to transition from Engineering into Mortgage Banking?” –
Surprisingly, I utilize a lot of the same skill sets developed in my early Engineering days; as I meet with clients , I evaluate their overall financial goals/objectives, provide the “what-if’s” which may exist to alter the financial structure of their refinance and/or purchase – with the end objective to provide optimum tax benefits, minimize out of pocket expense/monthly payments – all while pointing out various opportunities to potentially build wealth and/or enhance lifestyle – with the purchase of various investment property and/or vacation type properties – all while providing maximum ROI . Every day continues to be a journey where helping people and continuing to have fun is a priority. As my dad always said…. “Work hard, be honest, don’t be afraid to take risks and make sure to have fun every day.”
I am very fortunate to have two incredible teenage daughters who are very involved with school, sports and various extracurricular activities. Both of them are self motivated and determined to excel – all while having outgoing personalities and huge hearts. Probably the best thing I am called is, “Dad”. We live on a farm with all kinds of animals; miniature donkeys, goats, pig, a menagerie of chickens/roosters, four dogs and two cats…and often you will find 12+ Black Angus cattle raised for beef. So it literally is a “zoo” at my house on a daily basis – all requiring a lot of work – but at the end of the day, the ability to jump on my tractor and forget about things for a while is a great escape.
I have been very fortunate in my life and I look forward to meeting you, helping with your financing needs……and more importantly developing a friendship along the way.
